This video demostrates the general steps on how to install a custom 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (Gingerbread) ROM. NOTE: These are unofficial, user-created ROMs and their level of usability varies. Most have all functionality but some may be missing minor details (eg camera zoom). They are NOT supported by Sony Ericsson so don’t whine and complain about Sony if you can’t get it working. Flash back to 2.1 and start over. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA using a 3rd party application such as Astro or Titanium Backup. Do NOT use Sony’s Backup & Restore as it is only for v2.1. You can also use xRecovery to do a complete backup since it allows selective restore (eg just data). HOWEVER, certain ROMs cannot accept partial xRecovery restores because the formatting of the data is different. The most stable solution is to backup all your apps (APK files) then reinstall once you’ve flashed your new custom ROM. Data can be backed up using programs such as SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu. Contacts can be exported to the SD card and re-imported or sync’d over the air. Each ROM is different. There’s no way to account for all the possible variables (flashing, rooting, baseband, etc.) so this is a general guide. Make sure you READ the thread for your chosen custom ROM and follow any specific details/requirements. I will not be flashing every single ROM just to try to debug something.
