Is Sudan’s latest move to end the conflict in Darfur a major step towards peace or another “recipe for war”? This week the Sudanese government and Darfur’s rebel Liberty and Justice Movement (LJM) resume peace talks in Doha. However, the history of the country is littered with failed peace deals, and with two main rebel groups – the Sudanese Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality Movement – boycotting talks, many are asking if the LJM has the power or the mandate to achieve a credible and comprehensive peace deal.
